I saw MGMT in Barcelona and had pretty much the same reaction as you. As there were lots of people on at the same time I also wanted to see, I was not tolerant enough of their prog-rock tendencies. A friend said they reminded him of “The Darkness” so we went off to see The Microphones instead. Therefore I missed out on their pop side. Have you heard Passion Pit yet – they reminded me of MGMT’s poppier side – there are 4 free tracks on their last.fm page.

The first time is unforgettable. I remember mine, a freezing Tuesday in February (perfect Low weather) and a long, slidy trek to the Queens Hall on the other side of Edinburgh. They were amazing and the opening notes of Two-Step made me make a strange yelp of excitement that I don’t think I have ever done before or since. Chips on the way home, who could ask for more?

I’m going to see them, possibly twice, in Barcelona at the end of May. After reading this it seems too long to wait! I always thought people were too harsh on “Dummy” just because it popped up on “This Life” one time – I certainly never went to any dinner party where it was used as a soundtrack. They seem to have kept the new album well under wraps – maybe I haven’t looked hard enough. Nice blog – check out mine – more ranting and rambling than “music”…

yes, i know what you mean about feeling sullied after TNP. dirty all over. but let us not lose sight of the fact that the drums were great!

i have been very critical of BRS. partly to annoy Binions and partly because of disappointment. everytime i hear ‘It’s Getting Boring By The Sea’ I think ‘what a great track’, and when i have seen them live (twice) I have felt quite excited at the start but then it just quickly evaporates into boredom and frustration. i’m not going to see them again if they just keep producing the same stuff.

I believe TNP are from Southend. What a dump.

I enjoyed them a lot but feel sullied afterwards. BRS were marvellous, though they need a bit move variety of pace and lyrical theme to keep my interest for a full stretch.

After all this I got the shivering fever and quivered, moaning, beneath my blanket.
